Focus on the Family Video Prays for Rain on DNC Convention Night

Stuart Shepard of Focus on the Family filmed a short video asking for people to pray that it rain on August 28th, the night of Senator Obama’s speech in Denver.

Standing in front of Denver’s Invesco stadium with an umbrella, Shepard asked, “would it be wrong to ask people to pray for rain?”

Shepard goes on to insinuate that a downpour in which Obama would not be visible by camera would best serve their interests.

I have to ask myself how has Focus on the Family become so political. Focus on the Family has grown from a Christian family advice source into a Republican voting block.

James Dobson the president of FOF, at the beginning of the campaign had said there was no way he would give his endorsement to John McCain.

Yet here we are. Dobson has not yet endorsed McCain but he hinted that he was ready to give him his support. Dobson is ready to do this because although he does not like McCain, he hates Obama even more.

How has Focus on the Family come to the point of praying for rain on the day of an important Obama speech? Are there not more important things to pray for?

I am sure the Democratic National Committee will be looking at the weather very closely as August 28th approaches. With a poor weather forecast the DNC will likely move the event to the original indoor location.

While Shepard was calling on listeners and watchers at Focus on the Family to pray for the misfortune of others, maybe they could have done some good.

I know they must think they are doing good, but it is what it is. They are praying for an unfortunate event to happen to Democrats because they do not share their beliefs. Maybe they should focus their time and attention in more productive ways to achieve their goals.

Democrats want to eliminate the need for abortions instead of legislating morality. Abortions will happen whether it is legal or not, but we should all work together to provide better options.

Lets provide better education, better jobs, and better support systems for people who find themselves in this situation. Working together we might actually find we have the same goals but with a different approach.
