A USA Today/Gallup poll found that an overwhelming majority of Americans are confident about Obama's transition process.
Obama is facing an economy that continues to worsen and the outlook only grows dimmer. Despite the poor economic state and predictions of things to come, Obama has instilled confidence in Americans.
A majority of Republicans are also confident with Obama's transition team and his cabinet picks. 78 percent of Americans, Republicans included, agree with how Obama is handling the transition. Only 13 percent disagree with the job he is doing.
69 percent of Americans agree with the decision to nominate Senator Clinton to the position of secretary of State. 25 percent disagreed with the Clinton decision.
Keeping Secretary of Defense Robert Gates on the job for the upcoming administration won even higher marks. 80 percent agreed with the decision and 14 percent disagreed.
The poll also showed that Americans are more confident in Obama's ability to handle the current economic situation than with President Bush. 58% said that Obama's spending package is the better way to spur economic growth.
Obama is earning higher marks than his previous two predecessors. Bill Clinton earned an incoming approval rating of 67 percent and current President Bush earned a 65 percent rating.
Obama will need to use his honeymoon period in Washington as the newly elected president to pass his most important legislation.
With good incoming confidence and approval Americans will be looking for cooperation by Republicans in the new congress to work with Obama on desperately needed legislation.
Obama will push his economic legislation first along with a few other priorities the Obama administration chooses.
Obama will have to put a lot on the back burner in today's economy and what will likely be a short honeymoon with Americans expecting results.
